While some evaluators see him as nowhere near a first rounder, it sure sounds like he’s a lock to be one.He may even be one of the first quarterbacks taken when the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft begins tonight. Jones’ name has been floated for a number of teams.Right now, Kyler Murray is a pretty strong favorite to be the first player off the board. He is widely projected to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 1, but it isn’t a certainty.Even if Arizona passes, it seems unlikely that he gets past the Oakland Raiders at No. 4.Beyond that, it is anyone’s guess who the next QB taken will be. For much of the process, Dwayne Haskins seemed like a lock to be one of the first two quarterbacks selected, but Jones and Missouri’s Drew Lock both have a ton of support as well.Jones has been connected to the New York Giants at No. 6, or he could tumble all the way down to a team like the Patriots at the very end of the first round. In his Draft Day seven-round mock draft, Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller has Daniel Jones going to the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 11.He likes the Duke product to be the heir apparent to Andy Dalton in Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Bengals will select a smart, accurate, experienced quarterback who is pro-ready to compete with Andy Dalton in a somewhat surprising move but one that makes sense if new head coach Zac Taylor wants to build his team in the model of the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams were built on the flexibility of a rookie quarterback contract, and that’s something Dalton’s deal doesn’t allow for ($33.9 million remaining over the next two seasons). Dalton, as the Bengals know firsthand, also isn’t going to drive the team to the postseason on his talents. It’s best to tear it down, rebuild on a cheaper deal and let Dalton walk in free agency in 2020.Jones is my QB4, but the word around the league is that he’ll be the second quarterback off the board.Miller is buying in on the Jones hype as the QB2 in this draft. He has Haskins going No. 15 to Washington, a spot that he has been increasingly connected to, while the Giants take Lock with their second first rounder, at No. 17.[Bleacher Report]last_img read more
