Bristol City 2-1 Manchester United: Red Devils stars rated and slated

first_img Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 6 – Was remarkably off the pace and struggled to get into the action. He was easily marshalled by Bristol City’s defence, and even when he tried the simple things they did not work out. Still, he scored a free-kick to equalise after Bristol City had taken the lead (though it did require a deflection to beat the keeper). 14 Marcos Rojo – 5 – Was caught off the pace when Bryan opened the scoring, failing to track his run then standing off him when he shot. Paul Pogba – 8 – Struggled at times with Bristol City’s pressing, but when given time and space on the ball he was a joy to watch. Pogba’s passing was intricate yet creative, and he pushed off opponents with ease when making driving runs forward. Victor Lindelof – 7 – The most assured of Manchester United’s defenders, Lindelof dealt well with numerous Bristol City attacks. He dominated in the air, but also kept City’s forwards at bay on the ground. 14 14 14 Matteo Darmian – 5 – Made neither a positive nor negative impact upon the match. Darmian is expected to leave in January, and this performance has done little to abate such rumours. Scott McTominay – 5 – A rather peripheral figure, McTominay showed some nice touches in midfield but did little to impact the match. Too many times he was caught in possession and was at fault for the turnover in play. Luke Shaw – 6 – Was not afforded the opportunity to get high up the pitch and attack, so put in quite a reserved performance. Neither good nor poor, an average showing. 14 14 14 Marcus Rashford – 6 – Made some typically threatening runs, but was lacking with his final ball. 14 Sergio Romero – 7 – click the right arrow to see the rest of the Man United player ratings – Extremely composed in his area, dealing well with numerous crosses, corners and long throws. Could do nothing to keep Bryan’s perfectly placed strike out the back of his net, while the winning goal was also not his fault. 14 Anthony Martial – 5 – Subdued in the final third and did not put in a particularly impressive performance. His general ball control was well below his normal level. Daley Blind – 5 – Displayed why he is so rarely selected in midfield. A woeful performance during which he gave the ball away, struggled with his passing, and was constantly swamped by Bristol City’s high press. 14 Substitute: Romelu Lukaku – 6 – So much livelier than Ibrahimovic when introduced, Manchester United were much more threatening with Lukaku leading the line. Only denied an excellent goal by an even better save by Steele. 14 14 14 Substitute: Chris Smalling – NAlast_img read more
