SANTA FE SPRINGS – Councilwoman Betty Putnam remains in critical condition after suffering major head trauma Wednesday after falling from a ladder, city officials said Monday. “She’s breathing a little more on her own,” City Manager Fred Latham said. Putnam, 77, is still unconscious, but able to turn her head toward the voices of her doctors and family members, he added. “There are rays of hope,” Latham said. 165Let’s talk business.Catch up on the business news closest to you with our daily newsletter. Putnam is in the critical care unit at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwwod where she was taken after she fell from a six-foot ladder while trying to eradicate a wasp’s nest at a constituent’s home. Two women who answered the door at the residence in the 8000 block of Westman Street Monday afternoon said Putnam was alone in the backyard when she fell. They declined further comment. A candlelight vigil for Putnam is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Town Center Plaza, 11740 E. Telegraph Road.
