(Click on photo for larger version).Sumner Newscow report — Eleven Wellington High School students headed north to Clay Center for the Class 4A Powerlifting Tournament Saturday afternoon.Wellington finished eighth for the girls – with just three participating, and the boys finished 14th.Brooke McCorkle temporarily held the bench record at state meet in Clay Center.Junior Brooke McCorkle had an exceptional outing finishing second overall. She placed second in clean with 175 pounds, second in bench with 200 pounds and second in overall competition with 630 pounds. She even temporarily broke the state bench record for a few hours until Clay Center’s Carley Hartner would bench at 205. The previous record was Ashley Merphy of Chapman.Other Wellington finishers were:145 pound division: Jaylen Harris: fifth, bench;  second, clean;  ninth, overall.Trystan Johnson: sixth, squat, 10th, overall.173 Division:Trayson Probst: second, bench, seventh, squat; sixth clean; sixth, overall.198 Division:Isaac Hilt: eighth, bench; eighth, squat; eighth, overall.Power weight: Cody Metz: 10th, clean148 Girls Division:Elise LeGrand: sixth, bench; sixth, squat; fifth, clean; fifth, overall.Power Weight Girls:Brooke McCorkle: second, bench; seventh, squat, second, clean; second, overall.Follow us on Facebook.Follow us on Twitter.last_img read more
